Apple Watch Series 10 or Apple Watch Series X?
Even before the Apple Watch Series 9 launch date, there were many rumors that Apple was preparing an Apple Watch Series X model to mark the 10th anniversary of the release of the company's first smartwatch.
Rumors are also fueled by the previous iPhone X, which marked 10 years since the launch of the first iPhone device model.
As for the 10th Apple Watch model, it is very possible that Apple will abandon the idea of using the number 10 in the Roman alphabet (“X”). iPhone X has been associated with the name iPhone X, very few people use "iPhone 10" in speech.
Apple Watch Series 10 : Design
Being an anniversary Apple Watch model, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman predicted that Apple is planning a major overhaul for this smartwatch. The company is working on a slimmer body for the Apple Watch Series 10, but Cupertino could also change the mechanism for connecting the bands (straps).
Apple sources say that the way Apple has designed the straps and grip system on current models takes up too much space. This strap mount could be redone to add a larger battery or other internals. In addition to this aspect, Cupertino is considering a magnetic strip attachment system, which could mean giving up backwards compatibility with older bands.
Apple Watch Series 9 bands are currently compatible with many older models.
As for the materials that the Apple Watch Series 10 will be built from, it is possible that Apple will continue with aluminum and stainless steel finishes.
Colors
For now, not much is known about the possible colors of this watch. But if Apple follows suit, these are some of the colors we could see:
- Starlight
- Midnight
- Silver
- (PRODUCT)RED
Apple Watch Stainless Steel:
- Gold
- Silver
- Graphite
Chip / Procesor
After several years without significant speed improvements for the Apple Watch processor, Apple released the Apple Watch Series 9 with a better version than previous generations. For the Series 10, it's unclear if Cupertino is making this chip faster, though it's likely to introduce a new S10 SoC with improved machine learning capabilities and compatibility with other sensors. Especially those for measuring blood pressure and blood glucose levels.
Sensors: Sleep apnea, hypertension and diabetes
According to Mark Gurman and Drake Bennett, Apple has a "tempting plan for 2024, including detection of hypertension and sleep apnea." To detect sleep apnea, the watch would use sleep and breathing patterns to estimate whether someone has the condition and then direct users to see a doctor.
For the blood pressure sensor, Apple will do the rollout in stages. In the first step, it will inform the user if the blood pressure tends to rise and provide a diary for the user to note what he was doing when the hypertension occurred. A kind of log of activities when high blood pressure is detected. Upon detection, this feature will direct users to talk to a doctor or measure their blood pressure with a licensed medical sphygmomanometer.
It is quite possible that a future version of the system will be able to provide accurate values and diagnose related conditions.
In terms of measuring/estimating blood glucose levels, Apple will rely on short-wave infrared absorption spectroscopy, which sends light through the user's skin between blood vessels and cells, then reads the reflected light to help calculate the concentration of blood glucose.
“This technique involves emitting lasers through the skin into the interstitial fluid between the blood vessels and the cells they serve. The intensity of the light reflection back, the researchers found, can be used to calculate the glucose concentration in the interstitial fluid and, by extension, in the blood – and the only thing that had to enter the body was light," Bloomberg explains.
In conclusion, from what is rumored so far, the Apple Watch Series 10 will come equipped with sensors for:
- High and low heart rate notifications
- Irregular heart rate notification
- Cardio fitness notifications
- Temperature sensor
- Emergency SOS
- International emergency call
- Fall detection
- Accident detection
- High performance accelerometer
- Second generation ultrawideband chip
Battery and connectivity
If the rumors are true and Apple offers a new design for the Apple Watch Series 10, it could have a battery life of more than 18 hours per day. For years, the company has brought the same battery life despite adding new features.
watchOS 11 will power the Apple Watch Series 10.
With watchOS 10, Apple has completely revolutionized the experience Apple Watch by redesigning its apps for larger screens. Added new Smart Stack widgets, a reconfigured Control Center, and more. It is currently unclear what changes and news watchOS 11 will bring.
Release date
If Apple follows suit, Apple Watch Series 10 it could be announced in September alongside the iPhone 16, with sales starting the same month.
